About our History Society

high street

Our society is a friendly group of residents of Cherry Hinton and beyond sharing an interest in the history of Cherry Hinton and surrounding areas and memories of living here. We have ten meetings a year with a talk given by a guest speaker on historical subjects, often but not always, with a local context. The society also arranges excursions. Please see the programme lists (links at left) for a flavour of what we do.

We meet here in the Church Centre at 7.30pm on the last Monday of most months. A talk is followed by questions, coffee, lots of chat and a raffle to help the society's funds.

Membership for 2020 costs £10 for single members and £18 for couples. Guest membership for anyone who would just like to attend one talk is £2-50.

lancaster bomber

We have now arranged our first meeting and talk since Covid lockdown February 2020. This talk will be "A.V. Roe and the Avro Lancaster" by our member David Taylor, who is a great authority on this subject. This will be in the Church Centre on Monday 27th September at 7.30pm.

Booking is required as numbers are limited. Please click here for further infomation.
Two more talks are planned for 2021.

During lockdown we have published monthly newsletters to keep in touch with our members which have been very well received. These comprise lots of interesting articles on the local history of Cherry Hinton and memories of residents.
